Square Pancakes Anyone?

Image
A few mornings after we moved into our new house, David asked if we could make square pancakes.  And so Luke did. Why did he ask for square pancakes? Well, one day before we left the states we were eating waffles and we were talking about how our waffle maker in the states was square shaped but our waffle maker in Nicaragua was circle shaped.  Then when we were back in Nicaragua he must have remembered that conversation because he asked for square pancakes. It made me think about how his little world might seem like a "square pancake" right now.  Going from one world to a completely different world in a matter of a plane ride can do that to you. Before we came back to Nicaragua we were intentional about talking with our kids about the changes ahead.  It was neat to hear David come up with similarities and differences between the U.S. and Nicaragua.   And now that we are here we're consciously and subconsciously making more comparisons.  Not...

Back in Nicaragua

Thank you, thank you to those who were praying for our travels back to Nicaragua!  Emily and Lucy enjoying our new place   We had quite the adventure coming into Managua.  There were heavy thunderstorms and just before we landed, the pilots suddenly pulled up as if we were taking off again!  They later came on the intercom and said "We're going to land in Costa Rica."  We were on the ground in San Jose, Costa Rica for about an hour and a half before given the clear to fly to Managua.  Instead of getting in at midnight, we got in about 3:30 am.  Nevertheless, we're very thankful for God's protection in that whole experience!  We are very thankful to have made it back safely and with all of our children and luggage.  The only casualty was Emily's bear blanket that somehow got left on the plane.     We've now been back for two weeks.  And it has been two weeks full of adjustments, living in between houses, and "...

Prayer For Our Return To Nicaragua

Tomorrow we leave to go back to Nicaragua. (Actually, make that today.) As I sit on the floor of our furniture-less house that we've been blessed to stay in for the past 10 months, I'm amazed at the fact that though it is past 1:00 a.m. and there is still last minute packing and cleaning to do, I'm not stressed or overwhelmed.  Shouldn't I be??!?  But our God is a God of peace and order and joy. And I am so thankful that in the past few days He has provided me abundantly with deep peace and a settling of spirit.  And this in the midst of one of the busiest and stressful times of life: moving overseas.  While still caring for three young children.  While managing a myriad of mixed emotions. While trying to be intentional with goodbyes. I know that many people have been praying for our family as we make another transition, this time with another little one in tow.  Thank you so much for your prayers.  Luke and I have been challenged and encourage...
