Learning a Third Language!
Ever since our son, David Luke, was born, he has completely taken over my blog posts! And rightly so...he is, in his parents' opinion, the cutest baby there is!
However, my wonderful husband, Luke, deserves some recognition and attention on these pages. Recently I've found that one of Luke's primary love languages is "Words of Affirmation". Now, I am fluent in English and Spanish but in the past few months I have been attempting to learn a third language, namely, "Words of Affirmation". How hard could it be?
Well, for someone who grew up in Bolivia hearing and speaking Spanish, I realized I honestly had never experienced the pain, frustration, and confusion of learning a new language. Spanish came natural to me as I was surrounded by it from four years of age and on.
"Words of Affirmation" is a language that is pretty foreign to me. I can understand it pretty well but my pronunciation and delivery are quite poor. What if I make a mistake? What if he doesn't understand me? What if I communicate something completely different than what I intended?
Yet, if I am to communicate love effectively to my husband, learn his language I must. Though I stumble and flounder, I am learning. Though sometimes I feel like taking a break in my language study and practice, perseverance is key.
Boy, am I glad that written words are a dialect of the "Words of Affirmation" language! Now, this I can do! I have always loved writing, reading, editing -- anything with the written word! So, stay tuned for the next blog post which will feature an article I wrote about my husband.
For today, I'll give you a sneak preview of a few qualities that are unique to this man that I love:
1.) Luke loves adventure and trying new things!
2.) Luke has a great eye for graphics, website design, and photography!
3.) Luke is a respected leader who doesn't let details or situations daunt him!
4.) Luke is a talented athlete and well-loved coach.
5.) Luke is the only one who can make me laugh so hard that my throat does a wierd "clicky" thing!
